Iaşi shines among the towns which have a real historical vocation. We do not refer here only to the preoccupation for vestiges...
On the 2nd November 1941 there could be heard – for the first time on air – the words ‘Here is Radio Moldavia’.
The endowment of the Romanian society with this means of propaganda could also be interpreted in the following way: The ethereal waves of the Iaşi radio station brought on their wings the speech, the thoughts and the Romanian way of feeling not only to the lands between the rivers Pruth and Buh but even beyond, to where the sun rises, till the boarders with the German culture.
In 1944, ‘the voice destined to its purpose’ went silent. In 1956, on the 1st May, it was revigorated and took the name of Radio Iaşi (working as a territorial studio, without juridical personality, incorporated by the Romanian Broadcasting Society, as it is still the case nowadays).
Between 1944 and the 22nd December 1989 the communist regime put on hold its right to broadcast, as it did to all territorial stations.
We would like to believe that Radio Iaşi was Moldavia’s authorized voice, the rescue from death of some memorable moments, gestures, feelings and ebullient sincerity, of people born to work in the service of others. We would like to think that every day meant hard work, responsibility and tremendous desire to suceed. We want to believe that every time Radio Iaşi ressurected from its own ashes, its voice being heard clearer and clearer and becoming more and more useful to the people for whom it existed.
Radio Iaşi... Some gave life to it, of course, then nurtured it, some are still serving it, having accomplished their duty by making dreams come true on air and creating worlds; others, younger, do not vociferate their love at every corner though.
We are all celebrating almost 7 (seven) decades of existance.
At the present moment there are 30 journalists (pertaining to the production groups ‘News broadcast’ and ‘Music and entertainment broadcast’) contributing differently to the fulfilment/shortages of a radio station which has two audiostreams, for people having different listening profiles, and which respects at the same time the stipulations of the legislation for public radios. The auxiliary staff totals to 60% from the 73 employees according to the organization chart. We are happy to add to that the professional support of collaborators and freelancers (even though these cannot be hired).
Radio Iaşi – the most known regional station among the Romanian public radios system (market leader and at the same time the most important press group in Moldavia) – speaks to the people inhabiting the counties of Bacău, Botoşani, Galaţi, Iaşi, Neamţ, Suceava, Vaslui, Vrancea, Brăila, from the Republic of Moldavia and Ukraine, to the globalized world of the Internet.
The separation into the audiostreams AM_FM (Nicolae Tomescu’s project) imposed itself as an effect of the policy which led to a drop in the average age of the listeners. In the FM we approach the younger segments of population, while we considered diminishing the risk of losing other categories by reconstructing the AM.
Each audiostream received an adequate space in the grid of programs; bearing in mind the needs and expectations of the targeted public, found in the national/regional studies, the question regarding some formats, that would address at the same time the younger and senior segments of population, became soluble.
The changes, in content and form, in what the editorial policy was concerned, as well as the efforts made for promotion, took shape into an image which got better and better and which lead to Radio Iaşi coming to be recognized as the favorite radio station of many listeners from Moldavia.
RADIO IAŞI will continue to privilege the events and the cultural analysis, will want to (re)interpret the role of education in the space of public radio stations. We have decided to see the culture in a disocciated manner: as a product, object, area, and as a way to approach reality. In order to be communicated and addressed, culture shouldn’t be regarded as sectorial, compartimented and isolated anymore, but we should see it from a broader point of view.
At radio Iaşi Classic: We trust our friends; we do not forget to say : Good Morning!Dedications (which begin at 8 o’clock) and the Radio Iaşi Journal (from 9 a.m.), introduces the Public Agenda! Only on Medium waves, from 10 a.m, you join the Romanian Regional Radio. At 11 a.m., we come back closer to the eyes and heart of Moldavia. Immedialy after 1 p.m. we promote the diversity of values: Politic and ethnical; Musical – between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.; Economics, Info North East, Passions, Health or Info Turism, turistic Moldavia, from Monday to Friday, between 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. After the Radiojournal(the) Witness urges us to cordially polemic. Starting with 5 p.m., Radio Iaşi Classic uses the key to actuality! Daily news/Dedications do not need more arguments but a beginning (6 p.m) and an ending (8 p.m.); Eduction, culture (Short Theatre, Benchmarks in history, Literary conversations, The Art of the Show, Traditions, Cultural Supplement), the direction of a movement: until 9 p.m. The jukebox machine brings to perfection the grid of programs on medium waves.
On Saturdays, after Good morning, at 8 a.m., we wait for the Dedications! Starting with 11 a.m.: Football. The Second League or Musical and sportive colloquims! After the Radiojournal of 1 p.m. we dedicate what the public wishes! On all the frequencies of Radio Iaşi! We tackle essential information in The synthesis of the day (between 5 p.m. and 4 p.m.). The Regional Journal and the Sportive Journal are followed, on 1053 KHz, Medium Waves, by the favoured years of some: the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. The Golden Sound Archive (5 p.m to 7 p.m.) contains the voices of the most proeminent personnalities! The Albums which go from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. collect what is of most value! At the end of the program, Sport with Radio Iaşi!
On Sundays, we say Good morning – until 8 a.m.! We then open the hearts of the people in order to enter into communion; we broadcast, live, The Roman-Catholic Liturgy (8 a.m. to 9 a.m.), Pilgrimage and The Orthodox Liturgy! We remain faithful (11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.) to the Romanian Village! After the Radiojournal from 1 p.m. we dedicate what the public wishes! On all frequencies of Radio Iaşi! We promote (3 p.m. to 4 p.m.) the children’s preoccupations! The Regional Journal from 4 p.m. as well as the Sports Journal are followed on 1053 KHz, Medium Waves, by the Music of Youth! (4 p.m. to 5 p.m). The Golden Sound Archive (5 p.m. to 7 p.m.) reproduces the voices of the most proeminent personnalities, Albums (7 p.m. to 9 p.m.) collects all that is of most value! And Sports (9 p.m. to 10 p.m.) reunites those who listen to us on Sundays!
At Radio Iaşi FM: Early in the morning, we ask all sort of questions, we have answers to give, during Good morning! From 10 a.m., we use the powers of the Magical Formula! After the Radiojournal from 1 p.m. we Have to share Only facts (from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m), Every Day (4 p.m. to 6 p.m.) Lost in traffic; between two sequences, we make Lobby (Economics, Info North East, Passions, Health, Info Turism, Turistic Moldavia) for the promotion of the image, projects, local and regional interests; Dedications do not need arguments but a beginning (6 p.m.) and an ending (8 p.m.). The cultural tranche of time comes to an expected height and a sequency like Juke-box machine (9 p.m. to 10 p.m.) prepares the Colours of the Night (22 p.m. to 6 a.m.)!
On Saturdays and Sundays, after the news from Good morning! (from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.) and the Magical Formula (10 a.m to 1 p.m.), we are at home in all Moldavia, on all frequencies (1053 KHz, 90.8 şi 96.3 FM) – for Dedications! We expect guests, we schedule special meetings, in Hello, Europe? (5 a.m. to 6 p.m.) or Lost in traffic (4 p.m. to 6 p.m.)! From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., we make a classification of preferences (Top Radio Iaşi) and we offer The Parade of Successes (8 p.m. to 10 p.m.)! Radio Iaşi FM broadcasts 24 hours a day (the linking element between night and day being the Colours... between 10 p.m. to 6 p.m.)

After Decembrie 1989 we started looking back, with great syncopes, in search of the lost time, trying to mainain an equilibrium between the new generations and what can equally contribute to our prestige – the good taste and the respect for tradition. The evolutionary rhythm, maintained during the last years, has received a new sign of recognition: it has changed the image of the world as it has enriched the world’s image on our organization.
